Humeral Veil with Sacred Monogram IHS in gold bricking pattern with rays of gold laid threads.
Another view.
Gold threads unattached to grounding fabric.
Missing gold thread.
Lots of loose threads.
More loose threads.
Very nice goldwork outlined with red silk – IHS. Worn and frayed backing fabric. Unfortunately there was nothing we could do about that.
“…should be of silk. The edges are usually fringed, while a cross, with the name “Jesus”, or some other representation adorns the centre.
All finished.
Close up of repairs.
A little pressing and good to go.
Frayed threads tamed.
Adding a new clasp.
This vintage humeral veil was given to a local priest. The rays emanating from the IHS monogram were detached from the grounding fabric and fraying. The priest wanted to have use of this simple yet stunning piece available for adoration for a few more years. The grounding fabric was stained and worn in some places and unfortunately was not fixable.
